#WichitaWednesday - The Sedgwick County Zoo's 50th Birthday!

Has it been awhile since you’ve been to the Sedgwick County Zoo? 🦁🦍 Well, this year the Sedgwick County Zoo celebrated it’s 🎂50th BIRTHDAY🎂 and with that came some exciting announcements! For today's #WichitaWednesday, let us catch you up:

🦩 New zoo entry as of May 2021

🦚 Zoobilee will be returning after having 2020 off due to COVID-19. This year’s event will be held on September 11th.

🐆 On October 1, they will open their new exhibit: the Asian Big Cat Trek which will feature a new home for all their leopards, including amur leopards as well as snow leopards which our zoo has never had before! This exhibit will be 10x as big as the previous leopard exhibit, leaving plenty of room for growth in the future.

🏮 Also starting October 1st, in the evening they will hold Wild Lights, a Chinese lantern festival. This event will run Wednesdays through Sundays from October 1st to December 5th.

🦈 April of 2022 will be the grand opening of Stingray Cove which will be at the zoo seasonally for 5 years. There will also be small sharks in this exhibit to interact with as well!

🚂 On Memorial Day Weekend 2022, the Martha C. Buford Safari Express will open. This will allow visitors to take a 1.3 mile train ride through the backside of the zoo, allowing a unique view of the park that visitors have never before had access to.
